Caribbean Stud Poker History
The history of Caribbean Stud Poker starts in the late 1980s, when
Caribbean Poker was first introduced in King International Casino.
King International Casino was part of the Holiday Inn Hotel & Casino,
located on Aruba, a small island in the Dutch Caribbean. The Holiday
Inn Hotel & Casino still exists today, but it's casino is called
Excelsior Casino since 1998.
After being introduced in Aruba in the late 1980s, Caribbean Stud
quickly became one of the crowds favorites in the Caribbean casinos,
and aboard the cruise ships sailing the Caribbean waters.
It didn't take long for the Las Vegas casinos to notice the fast
growing popularity of Caribbean Stud Poker. In the early 1990s,
only a few years after it's introduction in Aruba, Caribbean Poker
was introduced in Nevada casinos. Caribbean Stud's popularity continued
to rise even faster since then, and there are very few casinos that
*don't* offer Caribbean Stud Poker nowadays, including both land-based
and Internet casinos.
Caribbean Stud thus has a history of only 25 years, but in this
period it managed to gain a popularity that few table games ever
accomplished during such a short time frame. In fact we don't know
any table game that pulled this stunt, except for maybe Let It Ride
Poker.
